This guide will feature basic information for all classes and their roles in TERA. Information provided will include gear rolls, crystals, etchings, accessory choices, and tips!

This guide was written by accumulating information from a various experienced NA players of each class. Class discords and top scoring moongourd logs were referenced.

Note: Some crit cap numbers may be inaccurate as of Patch 80: Curse of the Skies due to new dungeons, skill changes, and an increased level cap. This information will be edited when correct numbers are known.

Tanks are members of a party composition that focus on holding aggro. This mean the boss faces you and you are its main target. To know who has aggro, look for an orange circle around you or a party member. You are in charge of blocking attacks, holding aggro, and positioning the boss. There are 3 very different tank classes and each contributes to the party differently. Depending on your class, you will be providing buffs or contributing significant dps numbers. All tanks are also responsible for enraging the boss. Bosses will enrage themselves, however it is important for tanks to manually enrage at the start of every battle to ensure maximum burn damage for the party.

Lancers are tanks whose main goal is to hold aggro and provide buffs for the party. They are usually considered the easiest to hold aggro with because they do not depend on damage as much as brawlers and warriors do. Lancer is very ping reliant. They use a lance and shield combination.

Explanation

Top Line

Lancers should always use cooldown rather than enraged damage. This is because lancer does not rely on damage to hold aggro. As lancer, you need to get attacks off quickly between blocks to keep the boss’s attention. Lancer has a short list of viable skills, and once you use them all there may be a few seconds before one comes off cooldown. By using double cooldown reduction, the chances of this occurring is significantly lowered.

Explanation

Top Line

Lancer’s main attack skill is spring attack. Spring attack should be pulling the most damage total in comparison to other skills. It is a part of many chains and has a relatively fast cooldown making it easy to use often.

Crit Cap

Lancer has a crit cap of around 260 (Mystic) or 310 (Priest). After getting this, it is irrelevant to get more. After reaching that number, start stacking power. There is no “power limit.” You can experiment a lot with this by changing accessories and their etchings.

Halidom

It is your choice if you would like to pick a crit factor or power halidom. Base your choice off of your crit factor in relation to the crit cap. If you’re only a few off, consider changing something minor, as halidom upgrades increase crit factor or power. If possible, use an Ishara’s halidom, which provides both power and crit factor.


Brawler’s ability to hold aggro relies mainly on DPS. The class is slightly less ping reliant than lancer, but you still need to be able to position the boss, dodge attacks, and hold aggro. Brawlers don’t give many buffs to the party but instead contributes with their notable DPS. They defeat enemies using a set of powerfists.

Explanation

Rolls

A brawler’s top roll can vary, but cooldown reduction almost always provides the most dps. The only time using enraged damage as a top roll might result in more damage is when the fight lasts between 4-5 minutes. This cooldown reduction will allow you to use more high damage skills. The reason brawlers should use 0.3 crit power instead of 6% flat damage increase is solely based on statistics. It has been proven the crit power gives about a 4.5% damage increase while the flat damage only increases your dps by about 4%.

Explanation

Top Line

Simply put, using the piledriver top roll is one of the only viable rolls. It has been shown that this roll provides the highest dps gain out of all the possible rolls.

Crit Cap

Brawler should aim for a crit of about 195 total before healer buffs. This means absolute total, so factor in base crit. After this, you will gain more potential damage from stacking power. There is no “power limit.” You can experiment a lot with this by changing accessories and their etchings.

One of warrior’s main attack skills is blade draw. Blade draw should be pulling the second most damage total in comparison to other skills. It is a part of many chains and has a chance to reset often, allowing you to use it as much as 100 times a minute.

Crit Cap

Warrior should aim for a crit of around 220-230 if you are reaching near 100 blade draws a minute. If you are far below that number, go lower to no less than 181. After you reach this, start building power. There is no “power limit.” You can experiment with this by changing accessories, etchings, and crystals. Top Line

Slayers should almost always use cooldown rather than enraged damage. This is because cooldown reduction is more valuable in longer fights of about 4+ minutes. Having cooldown reduction will allow you to use more high damage skills and have rotations flow easier and smoother. By using double cooldown reduction, the chances of running out of skills to use occurring is significantly lowered.

Top Line

Lancer’s main attack skill is overhand strike. Overhand strike should be pulling the most damage total in comparison to other skills. It is a part of many chains and has the chance to reset often. Also, with enough cooldown reduction, it should have a relatively short cooldown.

Crit Cap

Slayer should be reaching around +330 crit at level 65. You can slowly decrease this amount when leveling to 70, however you should end with around +300. After reaching that number, start stacking power. There is no “power limit.” You can experiment a lot with this by changing accessories and their etchings.

Crit Cap

In order to min-max sorcerer, you must now use two sets of accessories. Sorcs should use +220-250 crit with a mystic and +270-300 with priest. If you don’t want to use two sets, you can aim for +260. Make sure to factor in mystic aura to this number, which makes the added green amount needed about 56 lower. This means you may need two sets of accessories. One of archer’s strongest attack skills is radiant arrow. It can also be used fairly often. Radiant arrow should be pulling a large portion of your damage. One of reaper’s strongest attack skill is grim strike. Grim strike should be pulling a large portion of your damage and is your most prevalent non-apex skill.. It is an essential part of reaper’s rotation.

Crit Cap

Reaper should aim for a total of about +150 crit as of recently. Factor in mystic aura as well. After reaching that number, start stacking power. There is no “power limit.” You can experiment a lot with this by changing accessories, their etchings, and innerwear.
